Vocal Master Classes

Offered in New York City and at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, these master classes offer serious singing students an opportunity to perform for their peers, as well as getting a fresh perspective on technique and interpretation.

Master classes are a unique chance for singers to gain an outside perspective on their singing. While we may say all the same things as your regular instructor, hearing it presented differently often has astonishing effects!

About the studio

Studio Voix-LA! is firmly dedicated to the vocal, physical and spiritual health of its students. We offer both private studio lessons and regular workshops and lecture series in Knoxville, Tennessee, New York City and Austin, Texas.

STUDIO LESSONS

Beginning with proper breathing and support, from which all good singing originates, students receive a firm grounding in relaxed, balanced and healthy vocal placement, creating a free and open sound. Physical anatomy is discussed and studied, and imagery is used when appropriate. Students also receive strict training in English and foreign language diction, using IPA, and translation/fluency skills are emphasized. Following excellent technique, students receive guidance in interpretation and the deep psychological/anthropological basis for singing, both classical and modern. Fine technique must come first, and then it's the passion and consciousness of the singer that allows the genius to emerge. From age 13 to emerging professionals accepted. Studios in Knoxville, TN, Austin, TX and New York City. Weekly lessons available in Knoxville location only; monthly lessons offered in other locations.

COURSES, LECTURES AND MASTERCLASSES

From time to time, Studio Voix-LA! offers lectures and master classes on a variety of subjects ranging from vocal technique to music history to stage acting and diction.
Current courses include:
· "Singing from the Soul" - A six-week intensive on the psycho-spirituality of singing.
· "When the Spirit Moves Us" - an ecumenical look at the liturgical tradition in Western music
· "Acting for Singers" - stage deportment, natural movement, role research, etc.

POLICIES AND INFORMATION

  • Private Lesson Fee: $75 per 1 hour
  • Initial Private Consultation Fee: $60 for hour session
  • Accompanist additional $30 per lesson or the singer may bring their own accompanist
  • Master Class Fee: $60 per participant; $15 per observer
  • "Singing from the Soul"six-week course costs $1200 per student. Provided course materials include an exercise book and a personal journal
  • Group Lectures are offered at a flat fee of $1000
  • Language Technique: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin
  • Reschedule/Cancellation Policy: Students pay for a full month at a time. Full fee due if cancellation occurs less than 24 hours before lesson time, except in the case of illness or injury. Otherwise, fee is credited to future lesson.
